Happy Sunday Funday Ya’ll! I know the past few months have been trying, especially on social media. But it seems like you just can’t convince some people to see the light. Before you jump to conclusions, I’m not talking about the elections.
I’m talking about the AP not ranking UCF after another dominant performance. So to wash down another dominant performance that left us with only 1 vote for the AP Top 25 and 0 for the Coaches’ Poll, I picked up what is most likely a “gimmicky” beer.
Yuengling released a porter with Hershey’s chocolate in it, and I’ve had my eye on it for quite some time. So here goes nothing! Just like UCF’s playoff hopes…
Appearance: This pours a milk chocolate with a thin, coffee-colored head.
Aroma: This smells exactly like Hershey’s chocolate syrup. I’m worried that this is going to be the equivalent of dumping chocolate syrup into a classic Yuengling.
Taste: Well, I’m glad I was wrong. This has intense chocolate porter notes with some sweetness. There are some mocha notes at the end which help round this out smoothly. It is definitely sweet, but not overly so.
Mouthfeel: With as much sweetness as there is, it is still very light on the palate but a touch syrupy.
Value: They priced it like a craft beer, with a sixer going for $10.99, but it’s definitely a novelty.
Overall: As far as dessert beers go, I’d give this an 8/10. It is light enough to not weigh you down after a dinner, but it has a full-bodied flavor that really hits the spot. I would definitely recommend this beer to anyone that enjoys porters or sweeter beers in general.
Until next time, tight lines and cheers!
