Sierra Nevada Summer Break

Happy Memorial Day ya’ll! We spent the previous weekend running around Boston and let me tell you, the beer scene is incredible! Obviously New England IPAs were the ticket but there were a ton of other styles to sample. After all that we were whooped. Thankfully, this is the first time in a long time the wife and I have had nothing to do and nowhere to go for a weekend. So, I decided to do some fishing with a buddy and try some new beers! Well, we slapped the bass and bluegill and found a new Session Hazy IPA to try.

Appearance: Not gonna lie, drinking this straight out of the can.

Aroma: This smells like a straight up Hazy. There is a huge grapefruit hop aroma that is surprisingly strong for a “Session” beer.

Flavor: Most of the sessions I’ve had have been light, almost watered down. However this is chock full of flavor at a cool 4.6% ABV. You get lots of Grapefruit and Passionfruit hops with a touch of apricot at the end to finish it with a crisp astringentness. I’m shocked the fit a full bodied flavor into a lighter beer. At 150 calories its about half of a classic Hazy IPA too!

Mouthfeel: While the flavor is full, it is nice and light on the palate.

Value: It was a weird price, $10.29 for a sixer but well worth it.

Overall: As far as “Session” IPAs go this was the best I’ve had. I’d give it a 9/10. It is full flavored, but lighter on the mouthfeel to where you can knock a few back and not feel sluggish or bloated. I will definitely be adding this into my summer rotation. If you see this, you DEFINITELY need to try it!

Until next time, tight lines and cheers!

Fishing Report: Well, its about a million degrees here in Florida. Start early and as the sun gets higher target deeper holes where the temperature will be cooler and the oxygen levels will be higher. Also, once it gets hot consider slowing your presentation down as the fish won’t want to chase down a lively bait.
