Happy Sunday Funday ya’ll! This was a fun weekend of looking at wedding venues and hitting our first 3 stops on the Central Florida Ale Trail. Yeah, we might have overestimated the time it took to look at venues so we had time to kill, but that’s neither here nor there. If you haven’t heard of the Ale Trail, it’s a free program where you pick up a map at a local brewery and each one you visit stamps it. At the last stop, you get a free growler and fill from that brewery. It’s a fun way to try new beers and support the local beer scene. Anyways, after watching the Jags beat the Steelers, I figured it was time for a new beer so I popped a top on Liquid Truth Serum IPA by DFH.
Appearance: This has an unfiltered hazy gold to it with a small head that laces nicely.
Smell: Holy hops! As a beer that bills itself as being “Truthfully hoppy without being deceptively bitter,” I guess I should’ve expected that. I’m getting a bunch of juicy hops on the nose, but it is not overpowering.
Taste: There is a surprisingly strong malt backbone in this IPA. The hops are definitely present and taste more piney and juicy than citrusy. It finishes with more of a tartness than a bitterness. Overall it is well balanced and very drinkable which may be a problem at 6.8% ABV.
Value: If it’s free, it’s for me, homie. I think it’s around $10 per sixer, but I’m not sure as it was a gift.
Overall: I’m torn between a 6/10 or 7/10. On one hand, it tastes great and is super drinkable. On the other, it is pretty run of the mill and doesn’t do anything exciting or different. This is another great “starter” beer for people just looking to get into craft beer as it isn’t super bitter or strong, but has a great flavor to it. You know what? I’m gonna give this a 6/10. Also, UCF is National Champ!!!
Until next time, tight lines and cheers!
