Stone Enjoy By 07.04.17

Happy Sunday Funday ya’ll! I don’t know about you, but this summer has been a hot one already. Thankfully, there have been a ton of new beer releases hitting the Central Florida area to cool you off. For those of you who haven’t seen the Enjoy By series and their complementing Enjoy After series by Stone Brewing, you’re missing out. The Enjoy By has a 30-day expiration date and is designed for the hop flavors and aromas to be super fresh which fade quickly after canning, hence the name. The Enjoy Afters are just the opposite, like a Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA, a fresh one hasn’t had time to mellow and the flavors to gel and are best enjoyed months or years after canning. I grabbed the Enjoy By on a random trip to Publix, and this marks 3 years straight of getting the Enjoy By for this date!

Appearance: This pours a dark, hazy, amber color with a one-finger head that quickly dissipates and leaves fantastic lacing.

Smell: As to be expected, I’m getting piney and floral hop notes. There isn’t any citrus that I can pick up and no malts to speak of.

Taste: Prepared to be kicked in the mouth with pine tar! Holy hops there’s a syrupy, but not sweet, pine flavor followed by a floral, almost earthy aftertaste. It’s almost more tart than you would expect with very mild sweetness due to the ABV.

Value: $16 for a sixer doesn’t make it the cheapest thing on the block, but you get what you pay for.

Overall: I’d give this series a 7/10. They’re good beers and very unique, but unless you really love IPAs, get a single and not a sixer. It may be because the heat index is 105 degrees, but it’s a good beer to me, not a great beer.

Until next time, tight lines and cheers!
