New Belgium Brewing Tartastic

Happy Sunday Funday ya’ll! After watching and tailgating the UCF baseball game (we demolished Manhattan) and getting back into the swing of things, I figured I would try another new beer. If you couldn’t tell, I tend to avoid sours/saisons, but I found one from New Belgium which is a safe bet for a decent beer. So, guess what? I decided to pick it up.

View from the bed of my truck

Appearance: This looks somehow thinner than Bud Light with less carbonation. Strike 1.

Smell: This has a ginger smell reminiscent of pad thai with a hint of lemongrass. It’s making me hungry more than anything.

Taste: Well, it definitely lives up to its sour name. It has fresh lemon tartness to start that fades to a pickled ginger-esque finish. This beer is quite similar to the few shandies I’ve had. Imagine a lemonade without the sugar mixed with an ale with a touch of ginger to finish.

Value: $2 for this wasn’t too bad!

Overall: I’d give this a 5/10. It has decent flavor, but seems to be missing something. You could have a few at a tailgate, but more than two or three would be overkill. It may be a good start to sours for those looking to try it out.

Until next time, tight lines and cheers!
